Those who know me know that i am a restless spirit, I have embraced the travel bug for the last 15 years after a rather upsetting divorce. I decided to visit a friend in Northern Queensland , Australia who i hadn't seen for 14 years and thought if I'm going to be right by the Great Barrier Reef I must learn to dive! so began my adventures Diving has taken me around the world and made me curious of other cultures, so far 41 countries visited and still counting! So my most recent adventure started on a very cold wet English winters day! ...having been frozen to the core working outside on my classic car all day i retired to the warmth of the lounge lit the wood burning stove and settled into my sofa with a hot tea and my laptop to catch up on some emails ...during this i was distracted by an ad in the travel section of a website..."looking for a travel companion to go into the Empty Quarter of Oman" I replied to find out more info, and 2 weeks later I was waiting at the hire car desks in Muscat airport waiting expectantly for "Joe" who I still hadn't met! .. 45 minutes late but he did appear and we exchanged pleasantries and proceeded to get our 4x4 hired. We were joining a group of others 10 of us into total, 8 polish and 2 brits... the guide had spent 8 years exploring the country as a photographer and this excited me as I love to catalogue my trips and show my finished photographic work, I exhibit in the USA and UK. So off we went... a week of driving lay ahead of us we travelled down one of only 2 roads running the length of Oman stopping at various points to camp for the night... the first night we stopped in the Cinnamon Desert ... my tent a 2 man light weight little number.. required guide ropes! I had not considered HOW i would put up a tent on sand! so using 2 of the cars i tied my tent between them! the following days we continued down the country taking in the breathtaking views of the indian ocean as we drove along pure white sand beaches, we camped again on the beach and as night fell we witnessed not only the huge star filled sky unhindered by light pollution but the surf was glowing! Bioluminescent plankton and bacteria in the water were giving us a spectacular show. we continued and headed north and close to the Yemen boarder we entered the Empty Quarter, this region spans Oman, Yemen and Saudi Arabia and that night we camped amongst a sea of 300ft sand dunes, the sunsets and sunrise I witnessed from atop these incredible natural wonders....
