My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited
Germany | Monday, December 31, 2012 | 5 photos
My camera always travels with me, waiting to be excitedly, hurriedly pulled out when something or someone catches my eye.
I grew up in the suburbs of Melbourne. Back then taking photos was a means to record smiles, friends, family. This developed into something much bigger: striving for that perfect moment, capturing that precise glimpse into a life.
Moving to Germany last February, I immersed myself in a different culture. A new environment brings with it new places and stories, and living and documenting these is something I love doing.
Photography encourages me to open my senses to the world around me. Ordinary things become extraordinary. Every day I learn to both appreciate the small details and see the bigger picture in not only my surroundings but in my own life.
As a student of geography I have been taught how things function through words and numbers. But theory can only take me so far and I am overflowing with enthusiasm to explore and photograph this world in person. I have much more to learn, and guidance from Jason would be an incredible privilege which would give me invaluable hands-on experience in the field of professional documentary photography.
