Beaches can easily get crowded but for a coastal city with a low population density (like most of Queensland) heading off to one like The Strand is more about communing with the noise of nature and sights of serenity, with coastal birds frolicking in the sand and water, as a seagull basks in low tide during winter.

Seawater sparkles under the midday sun behind a chain that encloses the edge of The Strand Park in Townsville, a city in the northern part of Queensland, Australia. While the city shares its name with a fictitious setting of an animated series (the “Powerpuff Girls”, if you haven’t guessed it yet), its way of life is more laid-back than animated, with parks, beaches and riversides everywhere as natural destinations for rest and recreation.
