My Photo scholarship 2010 entry

Worldwide | Saturday, October 16, 2010 | 5 photos

My name is Ana Melendez and I am 22 years old. I have always been very active and I love to try anything new or different and travel every time I get the chance to. Back in high school, I went to Michigan for a year as an exchange student. I got enrolled in my first photography class after talking my way out of another English class. While taking the photography class, I learned the basic principles for taking photographs and how to develop black and white pictures in a dark room, which I loved. A year later, back in Mexico I searched for a photography studio where I could keep developing pictures and this is where I learned how to develop pictures in sepia as well.

The pictures I am submitting are meaningful to me because they are from my most recent trip to Europe. I had wanted to go to Europe for a couple years now, and this past summer I finally ended up saving enough for the trip. Each picture for me brings back a memory, a story about the places I visited and the people I met. Every picture has a very special meaning for me because they help me capture those special moments to share and those moments which you can look back at and smile. For me, photography is a way to express ideas and emotions that go beyond words. Photography is looking at beauty by looking beneath the surface of it. I love to take pictures to share my experiences with others.

I got involved in photography to stare into the world’s beauty and creativity; it is fun and exciting. I would like to be chosen for the photography scholarship because I am energetic, optimistic and passionate about everything I do. This could be a great opportunity for me to further develop my photography skills, and expand my knowledge by making the best out of it. I hope you like my photos as much as I do.
