My Scholarship Entry 2012 - Walk with the San people

I became interested in photography when I was around 13 years old. It really all started when we studied "Migrant Mother" by Dorothea Lange in class. I got this overwhelming emotion when I saw it and I couldn't believe that an image could evoke such a reaction, ever since then that is what I've strived to do with my own photography.
I started experimenting with photography in my teens using different lighting, angles, colour, text and other images to try and create different moods.
When I left school I discovered another thing I loved, travelling. I have travelled with friends, family, on tours and also by myself all over the world. I love people and cultures. Through my experiences I have seen and photographed so many different people and places always trying to capture the essence, emotion and the story. I currently study fine art photography at university and am about to begin studying sociology and anthropology.
I see winning this scholarship as an opportunity to learn new skills and to begin to understand the lifestyle of a professional photographer. This is important to me as my dream has always been to be a travel and documentary photographer.
