Anna in Italy "You may have the universe if I may have Italy." Giuseppe Verdi

Goodbye is the Saddest Word

So I don't want to say it, even though I'm sitting here now with two hours to go before my dear friend Giulia picks me up to take me to the bus station. Instead of dwelling on the inevitable departure, I prefer to recount an evening we shared last week, at a delightful little town called Montecassiano.

We had just sat our final International Law exam, so we decided to go out to celebrate (both of us ended up getting 100% for the subject, so you could say the celebration was well-deserved :) Basically it was just a nice, quiet, relaxing evening: we arrived early and walked around the town (where there were like no other people, except for some psycho cars every now and then shattering the tranquility). We admired the Christmas lights, and Giulia told me about a number of Italian Christmas traditions and how she normally celebrates Christmas with her family.

Below is one of the streets where we nearly got flattened by a speedy gonzales

After which point we entered a deserted but beautifully decorated plaza

"Auguri" literally means congratulations, (Tanti Auguri a te anyone??) but in this case is probably better translated as "Season's Greetings" or something of the kind

I'm really liking the light effects in the below photo... Who said I wasn't a good photographer??

Then we exited the historical centre and went for a walk outside before dinner. Less history, but just as beautiful in my opinion!

Then we went to the local pub where I have to say I really really enjoyed my dinner. We started with an appetiser of hot, crispy, perfectly fried chips...

Followed by tortellini served in some incredible sauce which I can't remember the name of #GiuliaPleaseHELP!! I NEED to have it again sometime, it was just divine!

And finished with a cappuccino, which despite the waitress saying no one knew how to make cappuccinos properly, turned out to be really nice

Thanks for a lovely evening Giulia. A beautiful memory of my time in Macerata! <3

Bye Italy - feels a bit like I'm leaving too, with this blog finishing. :( I have thoroughly enjoyed reading every entry. :) Thanks for sharing, Anna, and I am looking forward to seeing you soon - have a wonderful few weeks between then and now. I guess a good quote to end is: "Don't cry because it's over; smile because it happened..." (Although I guess you may do both. ) Thanks again! Lots of love from Henkela.

Hi Anna, thankyou so much for creating this blog! I'm going to Macerata on exchange next semester so I'd love to talk to you about it! I'm a bit a worried about accommodation, it's hard to know if i can stay somewhere were there will be lots of other international students so it's easy to make friends.. did you stay in a university residence or private flat? It looks so amazing but I'm just really worried about being lonely over there is all! Please tell me it will be fine haha
