    On July 19th, 2008, Saving Iceland activists stopped work at the Century Aluminum construction site by chaining themselves to machinery in protest of the damage being done to the geothermal areas near Hveragerði, and the company’s human rights abuses abroad. Views[328] The power station continues to expand, largely to fulfill the ferocious energy demands of aluminum smelters like the one being built on this site by the American company Century Aluminum.
