Days 49+50: Glaciers and Penguins

The second two days of our boat trip from Ushuaia, Argentina, to Punta Arenas, Chile, were even more exciting.  First, we bundled up with every stitch of cold weather and wet weather gear that we had, piled into the Zodiac dinghies, and met our first glacier face to face.  Much of the ice was a beautiful deep sky blue, and it was pretty much constantly breaking off small chunks which gently joined the other bobbing ice cubes in the fjord.  After thawing out and enjoying another great meal on board, we boarded the Zodiacs again the next morning and visited Magdalena Island, home to several thousand Magellanic Penguins.  We walked among them, and visited for a while, then boarded the ship again to dock at our destination in Chile.
