Day 18: Trujillo, Peru

USA | Tuesday, 27 January 2009 | Views [480]

Today was a very short touring day.  We went to see the Sapin artifacts at the museum.  It was a great stop, not to be missed.  The pieces were fantastic.  It is difficult to imagine the workmanship that went into each piece.  Jose, our guide did a good job of explaining everything as we went through and tying the different cultures together so everything made sense.  I’ve noticed that all the museums North of Lima that we’ve visited have not had any signage in English.  Not that this is a bad thing…just make sure you bring your dictionary if you don’t speak the language!  We’ve also found that English is not widely spoken up here.  You can find it or do what we do and speak in our pidgin-Spanish!  After the museum we drove for three hours to Trujillo.  It is a beautiful city, nice size.  We’re on the main square at a very nice hotel.  The main square is blocked off from traffic so the pedestrians can enjoy the area without the horns and other distractions.  From what we understand Trujillo is just beginning to become a tourist destination mainly because of the cruise ships that come into the port nearby.

I am hoping that tomorrow we will get out a bit more and see the sites.  So far all of our tours have stopped by around 1 pm and the rest of the day is left to your own devices.  I think we'll be doing more on our own today after being dropped off.  We are able to do the research from this hotel and make it a bit easier to find out where to go!

-Cheers!
