I am pleased to say that we have survived Vegas.....just. I don't think that I have ever been so tired in all my life; Vegas just never stops. Even at 4.15am this morning on the way to the airport there were 5 lanes of traffic all honking at each other. It's crazy.
On arrival at the McCarron Airport in Vegas, guess what was there to great us.....slot machines, or better known to all of us as pokies. As soon as we stepped through the arrival gate there were hundreds of them flashing at us. We couldn't help but laugh and take a few quick photos.
We checked into Treasure Island, which is a mid strip hotel with no hassles. The room was great and after asking ever so nicely, we were given a room on the 31st floor with a view straight down the strip. After settling, we met Head and Nez and had a couple of drinks.
The size of all the casino's was mind blowing. Each is like a little city, some of them taking up several blocks. They all have a theme, and many have some great attractions. Treasure Island has a pirate show, The Mirage has dolphins, lions & tigers, MGM Grand has a lion enclosure in the middle of the gaming area, Mandalay Bay as a shark reef, New York New York has a roller coaster, Paris has the Eiffel tower and you can have a gondolier ride at the Venetian. There is so much to do!
We also visited the Stratosphere and went on a thrill ride that shot you over the edge of the building. Very scary indeed....it's a wonder you didn't all hear me squealing from Australia. After this, we went Downtown, which is the old part of Vegas. It was great to see the little wedding chapels and old hotels on the way. There is a new attraction Downtown called the Freemont St experience, which was a sound a light show. It was amazing and I wish that photos could provide more that just a snapshot of what it was like.
On Wednesday, we all got up at 3am to go on a tour to the Grand Canyon. This involved a light plane trip to the Grand Canyon National Park, a bus tour of the best viewing places and the highlight of the trip, a 25 minute helicopter ride over the canyon. The canyon from the edge is beautiful, but from above it is absolutely amazing. We have taken plenty of photos, but again they just don't do it justice. This was certainly a highlight of our time in Vegas.
Just to make the day a bit longer, we went to see Cirque Du Soleil "Mystere" that same night, then watched the pirate show and climbed into bed at about 12.30am. It was a massive day, especially for someone who loves her sleep!
After a sleep in the next day, we spent some more time wandering around the casinos. We didn't spend much time gambling at all, there was just too much to do.
As mentioned before, we rose again at 3am this morning and said goodbye to Vegas. We had an excellent time there and it was great spending it with Nez & Head.
We are now in New York with another few big days ahead.
Be good,
Ange & Turls xx
