After 18 months of planning, we have
finally started our ten week trip around the world! Packing was a
nightmare, but Rach came to the rescue. She was ruthless, but I
ended up fitting in everything I needed...at this stage.
Our flight was really good. I had
about 7 hours sleep and Turls about 6, so we arrived fairly well
rested. Not one person was wearing a mask on the plane, but there
were a handful at LA airport. Plenty of food and movies to keep us
entertained for the long flight. We could not believe the size of LA
as we were landing, it is unbelievable...approximately 15 million
people live in the area, it's kind of hard to get your head around.
We transferred straight to Anaheim and
checked into the Candy Cane Inn. This was a great choice for
accommodation; beautiful grounds and nice neat, very clean rooms and
a 5 minute walk from the parks and Downtown Disney. I forgot to tip
the driver and he asked for it...it was very embarrassing but we have
got used to it now. After freshening up, we caught up with Head &
Nez at Downtown Disney, which is the shopping and food district right
outside the two parks; Disneyland and California Adventure Park. We
went to ESPN for some drinks which was really good. We have been
amazed with how friendly and helpful people have been, service is
much better than it is at home.
The next day we were up bright and
early and were at Disneyland by 9am. The morning was fairly quiet
and we were able to get on rides fairly easily. I cannot describe in
words the feeling that I got in Disneyland. It is magical and almost
transports you back to being a little kid. Seeing the castle for the
first time took my breath away. We were not able to see the
fireworks cos they weren't going on Sunday night for some reason,
which was a bit disappointing. We ended up staying at the park until
12am, so it was a massive day and we were all absolutely exhausted.
I wanted to cry when the alarm went off
this morning, but we were up and at it again to Disneyland to go on a
couple of rides we missed yesterday. We then went to California
Adventure Park for the rest of the day which was a lot of fun, but
not quite the same as Disneyland. We realised how sore our feet were
after we ran from the park to the accommodation to catch our 5pm ride
into Hollywood.
We have certainly experienced as much
iconic american food as possible including hot dogs, pizza, bagels,
pretzels, chilli fries and the most disgusting fatty, huge turkey
legs I have ever seen. It nearly made Nez and I sick watching the
boys eat them!
The weather has been great; starts off
a bit overcast in the morning but is quite hot by the middle of the
day. I have the sunburn to prove it!
All in all, the start of our trip has
been fantastic and we are looking forward to the next few days now
that we are in Hollywood!
See ya
