A Grand Adventure

A Grand Adventure

A few days ago, I got to reminiscing how my husband and I moved to Colorado from New Jersey totally sight unseen. In our mid-twenties then, the move was a grand adventure.
My husband didn't care where we moved to, just as long as we went out of NJ. I, on the other hand, had to go out West. Since I was very young, I dreamed about going out there, daydreaming while listening to John Denver sing Rocky Mountain High.
I got my wish, and for 25 years my husband & I traversed the Western US many times over. In fact, after we got into our coffee business, we went traipsing around even further
We had a good time on those road trips. It was truly a grand adventure, and now, here we are living in South America, an even bigger move/adventure. Who would of ever thought.
However, relocating to SA was certainly not a change made sight unseen, as our move to Colorado was. And now that I am older and looking back, I'm unsure if I would be able to do that again.
Last night though, I was shocked, yet inspired. I spoke to two couples from the States, one couple in their 40's with a teenage son, and the other perhaps in their 50's or 60's -- both moved here to Ecuador sight unseen. The older couple came from Atlanta, and the younger couple came from our neck of the woods, Colorado Springs, CO. I admire adventurous people, I really do, but I don't believe that at the age of 55, I could be that adventurous -- making a move to a foreign county, let alone a different part of one's own country, without so much as even a visit first.
Curiously, over a year ago a young man from Colorado, who has known us for years, visited Ecuador and stayed with us for 3 weeks. We took him around this country, which included a few strenuous hiking trips. One enjoyable, but arduous trip was in the Amazon jungle which included a night stay in a grass hut, swimming through a river in our underwear to get to some waterfalls, and a ride in a long wooden handmade canoe. In short, at the end of his visit, he called me the queen of adventure. Oh my goodness, because as of late, there could be nothing further from the truth.
What in the world has happened to me? Did I suddenly turn 55 and die inside? Or have my interests just shifted, to like cooking, blogging, reading? Don't get me wrong, I still enjoy vacations, but still?
The two couples mentioned above have certainly got me thinking. An upcoming trip to NJ and our first trip back to the US since moving here 3 years ago, will do me some good!
