Beautiful Pests

My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

New Zealand | Friday, January 11, 2013 | 5 photos

I was born in Kiev, Ukraine. For the past 12 years I have called New Zealand my home. I came here escaping the continuous devastation of the Chernobyl disaster. I am new to the world of photography, but I know without a doubt that this is something I will pursue as a career & a lifetime passion.I feel that my childhood, which has been dictated by corruption has helped me to seek my truth behind each story. My dream is to document the effects of Chernobyl in the most honest light, as a direct victim,I wish to reveal the secrets that were covered up & the lives that were destroyed. My interest lies in documentary, wildlife & macro imagery. ‘Beautiful Pests’ is my 1st attempt at macro, with a home built softbox for my external flash, a reversed 50mm on an extension tube,I was able to illustrate a world that I am so intrigued by. My post production has been minimal & has only been used to reinforce the natural colours.I am aware that I have a lot to learn & much more to discover both in front of the camera & behind. What I know & remain confident in is my passion for it, my willingness to learn & my goal of becoming a photographer that can bring something valuable to the world of imagery.
