My Scholarship entry - Life at Brazilian backlands

Bring people’s stories to the surface: this is what I try to do with my photos. ‘As a journalist, this is what you’re supposed to do’, you might say,but hey, writing a story is one thing, photographing one is another.
To me, a good landscape photo is that one which makes you want to be there. Simple like that. But when it comes to portraits, it’s kinda different. Somehow you need to connect, to feel that person. You need to see. It takes time.
Working as a copywriter, I had no free time to take long travels. So I left my job, started working as a freelancer reporter and took a visual anthropology specialization course. It’s been almost a year and although I didn’t make any money with my photos – except for one sold to Getty and bought by National Geo. Netherlands – all I can do is showing my work. I’ve been winning amateur contests and exhibitions but isn’t easy to compete with pro’s, their contacts and gear (after all I have is a D5100). This scholarship is not just a nice trip to Peru, Jason, it’s a life-change opportunity: with your help and advice, I would take my photos to a higher level, make my work be noticed and lay the first brick at travel photography’s carreer.
