Football in the gap - local kids enjoy a new man-made soccer field near the city centre in the gap where a building used to stand between a pile of rubble from ruined shops and a cordoned off building with a questionable future.

Urban construction oasis - an inner city vacant lot left empty by a demolished building sees earthquake rubble and building ruins turned into an urban oasis of outdoor seating for meeting up with friends or reflecting on a city and lives lost.

Container cafe - after the city's main shopping strip was destroyed in the earthquake, shipping containers have been used to form a temporary mall while plans are made for a more permanent use of the space. The NZ owners of this 3 container fully functioning cafe have created a special coffee blend donating a portion of all sales to the rebuild of the city's Court Theatre.
