My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

Lebanon | Monday, January 14, 2013 | 5 photos

I’m a politics student, with the goal of one day becoming a photo journalist.
One of my earliest memories is a photograph from the conflict in Kosovo, I can clearly remember a shot of a woman wailing as she clutched a dead body. Soldiers milled around but you could sense they didn’t care. No one cared for the dead body and no one cared about her loss. This photo haunted me for years. It was only later I realised the important role a photographer plays in conveying news.
I study politics because I’m interested in global conflict. It’s easy to forget that everyday people live their lives in fear and uncertainty.
Because conflict is one of my interests, I love to photograph it. It’s difficult to understand the full weight of walking down streets riddled with bullet holes and negotiating riot fencing. But this is a reality many people face every day. Photos are about conveying a message.
I want to travel everywhere. I’m determined to travel and see more of the Middle East, specifically regions that have undergone war and conflict in the past. I like to capture everyday moments, everyday hardships, or simply beauty in the face of adversity.
