My Photo scholarship 2011 entry
Worldwide | Saturday, October 8, 2011 | 5 photos
My name is Amy Westerway. I'm a 3rd year BVA-photomedia student at Sydney Uni.
At the end of last year (2010) I went on a student volunteer program to Kruger, where I spent 2weeks on a conservation monitoring the over-population of elephants and their impact on the local wildlife.
My photos focus on the animals effected by the over population of elephants in Kruger.
The elephants are thriving under the protection of the conservation. Even though the local tribes are permitted to kill an elephant each year to feast on, their numbers grow.
The leopards & cheetahs are being drastically effected by their growth as the surroundings are drastically deteriorating.
The conservation project opened my eyes to the severe problems Kruger is facing. I was only able to photograph during my time off in the afternoon and when my group were driving to check points.
I would love to be given the opportunity to learn from a professional photographer in a country i have grown to respect and love!
