My Photo scholarship 2010 entry

Thailand | Monday, October 11, 2010 | flickr photos

The set of photos I have chosen are of Thai people at work I captured while backpacking through Thailand. The cacophony of jobs I observed the Thai people engaging in were fascinating. Their strong work ethic and attitude shines through in their facial expressions in the photos. Also, I chose these photos because the working environment depicted in these photos are very different than what Westerners would consider a typical work environment. I hope the photos will allow people to realize that not all jobs involve a shirt and tie and perhaps it is possible for some to derive satisfaction in life as a Monk.
Although I work as an Electrical Engineer, when I can, I follow my heart and backpack around the world taking photographs. After a trip to the Galapagos Islands and photographing the incredible wildlife there, I have taken a great interest in nature photography. I hope to learn many invaluable skills from Mr. Edwards such as how to capture that scarce, camera shy mammal or that split second shot that shows the most telling emotion of a swift mammal or tricks of the trade that can only be acquired through years of experience. My passion and insatiable appetite for adventure and travel makes me extremely suitable for this scholarship. I hope to provide my unique perspective to the images I will take such as showing the biodiversity of Bhutan and how each species is unique in their interaction and contribution to their environment. I also hope to show through the images the conservation effort by the Bhutan government in hopes to inspire other nations to undertake conservation efforts. Good wildlife photography requires patient long days to capture those perfect shots; I feel excited about how much I could learn and contribute during those long days.
