My Scholarship entry - County Clare, Ireland: A Photo Essay

I'm an artist with a passion for travel that simply cannot be quenched. I'm a freelance writer with itchy feet and a wandering spirit. I cherish the beauty of the world above all else and have dreamed of capturing its wonders since childhood. Specifically, I have dreamed of doing so with National Geographic as I flipped through the pages of NatGeo Kids, then Traveler, then National Geographic. Because these were more than just images; they were insights into the souls of the people and places displayed on the pages, opening up a whole new world to the people who inhabit it.
So I taught myself photography. I learned about light and composition and the delicate relationship between aperture and shutter speed and ISO. I learned how to shoot in manual and craft my own prints in a darkroom. I'm falling back in love with photography as I return to shooting more film than digital and I'm studying travel writing and photography with MatadorU in hopes of kicking off my career right.
That's why I should be chosen for this opportunity. Because above all else I want to reach out and connect with the beautiful people and places of the world and, through images, help others do the same.
