NYC and abroad

My Photo scholarship 2011 entry

Worldwide | Monday, September 26, 2011 | flickr photos

These photos were taken in New York City immediately following a 5.8 magnitude earthquake in Virginia that was felt up and down the entire US east coast.

As buildings shook, people flooded the streets with a mix of reactions. There was no immediate visible damage to physical structures, so I turned my lens to the people.

Being a daily wanderer of the city, there was a very noticeable change in the communal vibe of the city. My goal was to capture that mix of emotion while using the buildings as an inescapable looming backdrop.

Since High School (2001) I have kept a camera by my side at all times. I don't leave home without my Canon 7d. Not for the purpose of shooting everything I see however, to be prepared for any unique moment I may encounter.

Every photo taken is an opportunity to learn technically and artistically, this opportunity to work with Jason would jolt my photography to a new level of professionalism. My long term plans as a photographer include to stay faithful to the art form by keeping the post processing to a minimum. I hope to use photography to expose humanity as it stands during my lifetime for future generations to see.

Photography is a way of life, a language, a faith. Photographers are a special breed of people who want to document stories and share memories. We want to help others feel what we have once felt, using the gift of pausing time.
