Lungs of The Earth

My Scholarship entry - Bitten by Bolivia

Bolivia | Sunday, November 23, 2014 | 4 photos

I am, you are ... we are all connected to the awe-inspiring ecosystem that is the Amazon. As the lungs of our planet, it is the silent giver of life – giving, always giving. By going on assignment with Jason Edwards, I want be a part of that majesty and remind people that what we do, who we are, how we shop – whether it’s for food, clothes or coffee has a global impact.

When I think of the Amazon, it is a place I've yearned to visit since I first came across it in Geography class. With it comes the possibility of adventure, enchantment and exploration. Photography has the power, in a single moment, to remind us of what we need to remember for eternity whether that is respect for nature, our fellow beings, the environment, animals, plants and minerals.

2015 is the year I want to focus on photography and I look forward to the chance of being an apprentice so I can live and learn skills and techniques. I relish the opportunity to photograph animals in their natural habitat, to meet local people and travellers. To win this placement would be to win a seat with Mother Nature and the chance to visit one of the most enchanting places on this planet that we call home.
