My Photo scholarship 2010 entry- Amandine Johnson

The vastness and diversity of this gigantic land never ceases to make me reflect on what the world has to offer. I recently went on a road trip with two others, who I quickly became great friends with over the 10 days we spent together. We traveled with the help of a little red rented sedan, up across the Red Center in the heart of Australia. I had never been here before, but somehow I knew this was going to have a profound impact on my outlook on nature, culture and life.
I have been fortunate enough to have seen, photographed and traveled dense jungles, and cold icy climates, but this was a whole new level. The barren desert with its crimson red earth, and its intriguing creatures, (photo 2) makes you wonder if you are still on our earth. We traveled by the Oodnadatta dirt roads that graciously allowed us to cross them (photo 1), for these areas are known for dangerous flash floods and sudden washouts. Never once did we see any form of human life, other than remains of old trucks and fences that once were. (photo 3) I wonder, with such distinguishing beauty like the Painted Desert (photo 5) and striking moon rises (photo 4) why we were the only ones here?
The Kingdom of Bhutan, Travel Photography Scholarship 2010 provides an unparalleled opportunity in which I hope to be fortunate enough to become involved with. I believe with my sense of drive and meticulous attention to detail, I can not only learn a wealth of information, but also become an asset to Jason Edwards and crew. I also believe that through his guidance I can share this opportunity through stunning photos that will hopefully inspire others to also follow their passion.
