The Cultural Feasts of Indonesia

My Photo scholarship 2010 entry

Worldwide | Thursday, October 14, 2010 | 5 photos

Using my creative flair and artistic eye to do something I love and make a living from it would be the epitome of happiness for me. I believe the key to life is indeed happiness and live my life on this belief. I grew up in Brisbane and 3 years ago moved to Elliott Heads which is a small coastal town south of Bundaberg. Currently I am studying Civil Engineering which again taps into my creative sense.

I have no photography training or experience other then grabbing a camera and snapping away. I have a natural ability to capture moments in a unique way and to portray the mood and atmosphere with a single image. Winning this scholarship will allow me to take this gift further and learn techniques to enhance my photography and help take it to the professional level. What better place to do it then the Land of the Thunder Dragon!

This collection of photos was taken on a trip to Bali and Lombok. I visited both islands and many different towns on the 2 week trip as I wanted to absorb as much of Indonesia as I could on my short stay. I wanted to feel the place, experience it through not only sight but sound, touch, smell and taste as well. I want to let other people experience that through my images, people that may not have the opportunity to go there.

I feel these images capture the essence of Indonesian culture, what presents to you on any given day there. It's raw beauty and filth, it's fun and it's rituals. I hope you enjoy them.
