Continent No. 3

Some people would say it was offhand decision. Others would label it as a bold decision. But it all started when I met some great people during my time in United States as an exchange student. I somehow decided always knew I want to see my friends (at least) once again someday. But the unexpected and for a moment even ridiculous and crazy invitation to a graduation ceremony convinced me to book a plane ticket to Brazil.
Some gifts, few clothes, things for personal hygiene and a towel would fit perfectly in a backpack. All checked with the tourist guide in hands and without caring if I would need to sleep on floor. It sounded perfect!
As usual, I forgot the sun cream.
The first impression was amazing. Smiling faces, crowd was everywhere, crazy traffic… About the traffic – I have no desire of visiting amusement park since I have experienced this. As opposed to cheeky ride, the hospitality and kindness of Brazilian families is enormous. They really make you feel like home. And eat their food. Please, do not get me wrong, it IS tasty.
I can say I experienced more or less everything on the area of Minas Gerais and Rio de Janeiro. Ran to catch the bus to go for a trip at 5.30 am as well as ran when trying to escape from a random guy who decided to follow us late in the evening on our way home. Besides that, my lovely friends made sure I saw gorgeous countryside landscapes, artistic Inhotim, historical Tiradentes and Ouro Preto, admire white coffee plantations for the first time in my life, got completely lost alone in Belo Horizonte, try to order food on my own and haggled over the price in central market in, to me unfamiliar, Portuguese. But guess what, I did it! Let’s say learning Latin and Italian showed up to be very effective and worthy.
We also went to Rio where we danced samba and forro in Lapa, watched and listened to the amazing beat of maracatu, got sunburned on the Ipanema beach and somehow met four other Slovenians on Copacabana, which is greater coincidence that winning a jackpot.
However, I still missed the football match.
Almost a month went by too fast. But the memories are still more than alive and tempting to experience Brazilian climate one more time. Nevertheless, the country is enormous and there is so much beautiful to see everywhere you go.
At the very end it is always nice and polite to say a phrase such as: “Till the next time” or “See you soon”. I do not know for others but I really meant it.
See you soon, Brazil!
