I have a lot of obsessions. Not the "omg I'm OBSESSED with pumpkin spice" type of obsession, though I'm not denying that stuff is delicious. My obsessions share blurred boundaries with compulsions, and they are as follows: photography, languages and travel. Yes, obviously, you're thinking, I'm applying for a travel photography scholarship and these passions should go without saying. But I use the word "obsession" rather than "passion" because these three things structure my every waking moment. I spend four hours each day studying Spanish, French and Arabic, and devote the rest of my time to photography. In the mornings and evenings I wander around and take photos, I am constantly cataloguing the work, life and impact of each new photographer I encounter, and I am full-time freelance as an assistant and second shooter. I should be chosen because my language skills and extensive travel experience will be an asset on the trip, because I aspire with each new morning to one day shoot for National Geographic, and because my obsessions make me the hardest-working, most enthusiastic candidate you'll find. Pumpkin spice is fine, but this dream is what sustains me.
