My Photo scholarship 2011 entry

Baekje Cultural Festival is an annual event that honors Korea's 5,000 year old history with fireworks, traditional foods, costumes and events. I have had the chance to visit Baekje city during this colorful and picturesque time and experienced the festival first hand. To some, history may seem stale and uninteresting, but it is exactly the opposite at Baekje. People are able to dress up as ancient Kings and Queens, try traditional foods and snacks, play games and experience Baekje the way their great great parents did. Of course, this festival is also open to foreigners, where as an aspiring photographer, I'm able to practice and perfect my craft.
I'm inspired by Korea's long history, its enduring people, traditions and cultural aspects. My passion for traveling has inspired me to become a photographer, to capture the moments in time as I remember them through my own eyes, through my viewfinder, not somebody else's. To live in the moment is one of the hardest things in today's technologically advanced and modern age, but despite that I try to hold on to my traveling memories one photograph at a time, reliving, rethinking and remembering.
If given the opportunity to travel to South Africa and the chance to grow as a photographer, I would like to share my traveling memories with the world and perhaps inspire other to seize their dreams.
