My Scholarship entry - Tools of The Trade

Hi, I'm Alex and I know that I'm not the best photographer in the world and I still have a lot to learn. My dad always says that the best way to learn is to make mistakes and I do make a lot but above all, I always try my best. I am currently studying Photojournalism at the University of Gloucestershire in England and I'm loving every minute of it. I take a camera, film or digital, everywhere with me and in the first two months here I have learnt to develop film, fallen in love with the darkroom and savouring every minute of learning new skills. The images I have chosen are of a Jewellery maker who I visited a couple of weeks ago, she makes all her Jewellery by hand. My images are no where near perfect and I know that, but I want to get better and to do that I have to take chances by going out there, entering competitions that I'm never going to win and make my family proud of me. I can guarantee that whatever task I am given I will give 110% and a year in my dad's plumbing business has taught me what the real world is like and how to work hard. My main passion is wildlife and just thinking about capturing the everyday lives of the animals in the area makes me want to go out with my camera and get some shots. Whenever I see a forest I get the urge to go explore and see what I can find and this would be a great opportunity.
