My Photo scholarship 2011 entry

I am a student at Swinburne University, studying a Bachelor Digital Media (Design), and my dream is to travel the world taking amazing photographs of life everywhere and post them onto an online journal detailing my adventures. I love taking candid photos of absolutely anything because it gives you a feeling of reality by capturing that special moment in time. My entry was inspired by an opportunity to go on a trip with students from many different diciplines at my university, and so onto a bus I impulsively jumped to start an exciting day of adventure, exploration, and meeting new friends. The first stop was at Sommerton Beach on the Mornington Peninsula, and the overcast conditions made it perfect to shoot in optimal morning light. This was followed by a stop off for lunch at a Winery, followed later by a visit to a strawberry farm - I admit I was too busy picking the deliciously sweet strawberries to take home to put my eye to my camera.
My father was a photographer, and it was his encouragment that first got me interested. When he gave me my first camera, I did not put it down. I took that same compact 2MP camera all the way with me to Japan in 2006 when I went on a 2 week exchange program with my highschool, and came home with well over 1000 happy-snaps of my time there. The highlight of the trip was looking at the photos - more fuel for the buring desire to return.
I am constantly aiming to improve on my skills by incorporating such skills as rule of thirds, and shooting from different angles to get the best possible view of any given object. I quite often bring my camera along with me to every opportunity I am granted to visit someplace new to me, and I aspire to return to those places to try getting different photos in different weather and lighting conditions.
