My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

Someone once told me that every photograph is a lie but within every photograph also lies somebody else’s truth, an expression of truth that is personal and therefore unarguably real. My whole life I have been in search of that truth - of realities outside of the ones I know to be true. This search is what led me across most of sub Saharan Africa, Nepal, India, Bhutan and Western Europe.
I remember standing, wide eyed and jaw dropped, at the foot of Mt. Everest wondering how I could describe that moment to anyone in words. This was when I first found the camera. I was 16 years old and I knew I had to find a way to express that moment!
Photography became my expression; my tool for when words fell short. Learning in the field is unlike learning technicalities in a classroom. Photojournalism is about being able to capture a moment, to tell a story within a frame using only the elements provided. This is difficult and requires a skillset different from ‘studied’ photography! This scholarship is an opportunity to learn what makes a good photojournalist and what factors affect the ability to tell a story. I need not even begin to explain how much I would learn on this trip with you!
