Explorations in my own backyard

Hey,
So I've been all over Quebec travelling as a freelance journalist but sometimes adventure is much closer to home and like many kids playing in their own backyards . I find the childlike wonder in the small beautiful things what droes me to photography and influences my style.
My name is Akiva Levitas, and for the past two years I've been working on on the side of my studies in Journalism as a freelance writer for an Aboriginal magazine. At first I thought my passion was writing. While out in the field I began experimenting with photography to complement my writing and they would also pay me $15 per picture.
At first I began by borrowing cameras from my friends. After saving up I managed to get my first camera which was a simple fujifilm which I experimented and eventually having one or two photos regularly printed in each issue.
My focus switched to video once I convinced my editor that I could film a small piece for the Nationnews.ca website. After my first video was well received I began producing more videos along with articles and some photos.
This summer however my dad purchased for me my first full frame camera because he wanted to help push my creativity to a new level. It's been awhile since he's been proud of me as I have, as the religious jewish community puts it, "fried out" since my late teens but I feel that he is happy with how I'm turning out so I feel this internship will help me further along in my future plans.
Thanks,
Akiva
