My Photo scholarship 2010 entry

These photos are representative of my trip to the Alaska State Fair back in 2006. Until then I had no image whatsoever of how life in the "Real America" (a term that has been used and abused) looked like. This is how I saw people spending their time in the state where isolation and melancholy are king and queen.
I choose this photos and photography because I am a storyteller, and that's what I like to do. I want to tell stories with my photos about what I have seen, who I have met, the surrounding environment, and all that it connects. I want to tell how the world turns and what makes it turn.
The best I can give to the world shall be these stories, a selection of moments in space and time and their deconstruction. I want the world to stop in a photo, and start again with every person who sees it. Each photo is a universe, and together they make a multiverse.
I want to save pieces of a world in constant change, so that people can remember as it was and reconstruct it. I want to immortalize things through photography.
I am currently starting my studies in photography after years of working in a different area (Computer Science). During that period I was able to travel, see and learn new things but above all get to know myself. Now that I have a new background and experience I've decided to take a turn and apply for something that I really want to do. I do have more interest in photojournalism but since I'm starting anew, I will give space to experiment with different styles.
