In less than a year my parents will be gone. They will retire and begin a journey to sail around the world. After all the hard work my parents have put in to make this dream come true it's hard to be feel envious. Instead, I rather feel proud of their accomplishments. With parents like mine, it's easy to see how they raised a curious explorer like me. As a child I would sit in the basement surrounded by National Geographic magazines and stare at the pictures for hours on end. The yellow frame with a breathtaking photo is still a familiar memento found scattered around the house. It is because of my parents retirement next year that I decided to try and spend as much quality time this summer with them and the sailboat. This past weekend my parents and I embarked to Thumb Cove in Resurrection Bay out of Seward. My photos reflect the beauty of my home in Southwestern Alaska and my passion for adventure. Currently, as a journalism student in my home town of Anchorage aspiring to be a photojournalist, there is no other scholarship I would rather earn. As an amateur photographer I hope to gain this experience in order to obtain insight that will guide me in all my future endeavors.
