Agnes the Brave

In the process of writing Lemon heads Eliza (who I’ve now decided to call nana because she basically is a grandmother) called me into her room. “Addison,” she said, “I need you to come here right now.” I though it was something to have to do with the flights she was changing, but “there’s something flying in my room.” When I got to her room she ushered me underneath the mosquito net. “It’s on my hat,” she whispered, “It’s landed on my hat. I think it’s a bat.” Her face looked at me in panic. “You can kinda see it from this angle I think.” I started to laugh a bit, and tried to get a better look. Sure enough hanging off the large sun hat better fitted for the Kentucky Derby then the edge of Nana’s bed I could see the tips of two small ears and wings. I started to laugh as Nana hit the hat and tried to get it to move. “It won’t go,” she said. “It’s not afraid of us!” With one last hit she caused the bat enough discomfort that it moved from its perch to a new one that we couldn’t quite see in the diming light.

We went go get Agnes moving one at a time out of her room. From then on it was Agnes to the rescue. She came into the room and spotted the flying culprit at once. He (or she) hung from the vent holes above the window. Agnes swung into action and knocked the bat from its perch with a stick. Without fear she ran and got a bag to trap the bat in, and triumphantly walked it outside. Coolest mom moment so far.

Addie, How cool! Thank goodness for Agnes. It's good to have a bat around - good luck and a great mosquito catcher!
