My Photo scholarship 2011 entry

Worldwide | Thursday, October 13, 2011 | 5 photos

The photos that i have chosen arnt perfect but are a reflection of the moment were photography became my one true passion in life. The photos were taken at antrim river, on my trip back to ireland for christmas. It was cold, snow burried the roads and homes of co antrim and all i could think about was going outside and capturing what i could. My grandad took me out in the snow and all we had was an umbrella and my camera the rest was up to us. While i was snaping at the corner of my eye i saw a sworm of ducks and swans struggling for cover skidding back and forth on some parts of frozen ground. As silly as it sounds it was then i relaised that photography wasnt about taken a beautiful photo it was about capturing moments telling a story some how through your photos, inspiring and moving people by what you captured. My friend who works for the antrim gaurdian said she loved my photos and said she would see if she could publish them. A few days later on hoilday they were pulished in the antrim gaurdian!!! Seeing those photos no matter how poor qaulity or little knowlege i had peolpe loved them and were moved by it. It was the proudest moment of my life and since then ive been self taught. When i saw jason edwards on tv talking about the scholarship my heart pounded!! The oppertunity of learning in person with someone who truely loves photography as much as i do would be an honur. I need photography because its the only time when im happy. Nothing gives me greater satisfaction that taking photos for a person and seeing that they are more than happy with the results. But i want to improve and im no were near the level i want to be. These photos changed my life and being able to witness it was undescribeable. These photos are about struggle and survival. It ment alot to me.
