Tibetans in exile

My Photo scholarship 2010 entry

Worldwide | Sunday, October 17, 2010 | flickr photos

I am currently on a sabbatical from work, travelling through Mongolia, China, Pakistan, Bangladesh and India to improve my skills as a travel photographer. The company I work for is a global engineering consultancy called Buro Happold. My role within the company is a Graphic Designer / Illustrator.

I am passionate about creating beautiful, meaningful photographs that inspire people to learn more about the world and possibly change it for the better. After learning more about Tibetans in exile in India, I decided it was the story I wanted to express through my photography. Hopefully, this will raise the profile of the atrocities caused by China so more people will try and help. I am also drawn to the beauty of the country especially after visiting many of its bordering countries.

I enjoy the challenge of looking for the perfect shot as it usually involves exploring new environments and searching for the right location and lighting. Not only do I feel it's important to fully understand the subject you are photographing, I find it interesting to learn more about the world you live in.

The opportunity to be mentored by such an experienced professional photographer would be an amazing platform to launch myself into a professional photographic career. I have the ability to capture beauty through photography in people and nature which is demonstrated in my photographic story and current portfolio.

In the future, I would like the opportunity to work with organisations that address world issues similar to my entry.

If there are difficulties contacting me by phone as I am travelling, please contact me on ajcolleyuk@yahoo.co.uk.
