My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited
India | Monday, July 8, 2013 | 5 photos
I encountered the boat people of Chilika Lake in Odisha, India and they are a remarkable community. They inhabit this wonderful lagoon which is a large wintering ground for migratory birds.
The lake sustains a unique community of 150,000 fisher-folk. The fisher-folk spend most of their lives on environmental friendly boats.
I met a fisherman there who doubled up as a tourist guide with his intensive practical knowledge of the terrain and bird life. I saw the fishermen cook and sleep on these floating homes as the meandering waterways take them from one picturesque part of the lake to another.
Travel to me is a means to discover new cultures like the boat people of Chilika. Reading can stimulate the desire of discovery but only travel consummates it. The roots of Art lie in the exotic parts of the world.
Travel photography helps you discover the universe and the roots of your country and culture. It helps you understand life and the world around us better. Photography freezes the moment that never comes back again for eternity.
So I would like to explore my roots in this universe with travel and preserve my moments of discovery for eternity.
