I am an ambitious, creative and motivated filmmaker. In particular, I am passionate about creating films about people and their stories. I realised this when I volunteered to make a short documentary for the British Council on Kuwaiti artists, which followed their artistic journey to London from Kuwait. The film was challenging as it featured thirteen individuals so it was difficult to represent each artists equally and fairly throughout the film. However, I feel I overcame this by making sure each of their personalities and stories were the focus of the documentary. I found that this experience led me to a new understanding of filmmaking. I am now intrigued by different cultures and I like to embrace this in my work, whilst forming my own identity as a documentary filmmaker.
I feel this opportunity would help me further develop my story-telling skills; in particular how to embed a narrative successfully into a visually appealing piece work. Further to this, I would like to understand how to effectively interview people to enable the most thought-provoking response that an audience can relate to.
In all, I wish to gain professional advice about the medium and experience new and exciting challenges to enable me to progress as a filmmaker.
