Bits and pieces around the Sydney Opera House

My Photo scholarship 2010 entry

Australia | Sunday, October 17, 2010 | flickr photos

The photos revolve around the Sydney Opera House and its surroundings. From the building’s meticulous architecture to the detailed streetlights, the setting presents numerous inspiring perspectives and opportunities for photography.

Photography captivates me in its own way; the results produced are still pictures, yet capable of capturing strong emotions and feelings often indescribable in words. The smallest detail is often overlooked by others, but not by a photographer. Photography brings one to completely different perspectives in viewing things, and that is what I hope to do – to present Bhutan including its architecture and unique culture to people around the world from various perspectives through photography.

From a personal view, Bhutan also appeals to me as a Buddhist to explore the country’s strong influence of Buddhism. It carries the impression of a secluded country, and at the same time, many of the traditions are still retained, providing valuable insights. As such, having this opportunity to not only visit the country, but also being able to experience in person the Bhutanese culture is indeed inspiring.

I often have folders full of wildlife photos as a nature lover, but not all are satisfactory. Photographing wildlife is by no means an easy task. Timing is vital; once an opportunity is missed, another chance of photographing the same frame is highly unlikely. Hence, assisting and working with Jason Edwards in photographing Bhutanese wildlife while gaining essential, practical guidance would definitely bring my photography skills up a notch to higher levels. There may be many more outstanding photographers, but it does not deter me of my participation; for I am driven by the same reason that has also infused me with strong determination – to learn.
