Robert Greene was talking to one of my favorite photographers, Chase Jarvis on creative mastery. Mastery requires apprenticeship. To me, this scholarship means a lot, it's the apprenticeship I've been waiting for.Having that burst of creative energy streaming from the realization of discovering the thrill of photography is not enough.
I have a day job: finance analyst. Yes, it's mostly behind the desk. It does have its perks: the job gets me travelling regularly. I get to see the world and meet random new people and places. That really excites me.
In a new place, I like opening my eyes to the social issues that are headlines within the area. I like getting to know the actors behind the scenes. Getting to meet and being able to retell the whole drama through the lens.
I've just started to specialize in portraits. People are the stories whether it's NYC or Chernobyl. The "Afghan Girl" eyes is what haunt us. As a personal project, I'm planning on making an ebay-like site but for scholarship funds, with a twist. I want the donors to see vividly how the less fortunate kids live and who are around them. I want to touch the donors through pictures.
Of course, I still need a mentor.
