My Photo scholarship 2011 entry
Tanzania | Thursday, August 25, 2011 | 5 photos
I am a single woman from Australia and I am an amateur photographer. I had the opportunity to holiday in Africa in 2006, undertaking a six week camping safari.
I have always had a passion for the natural environment and its conservation. I love photos for what they can make me remember and for what they can make me forget.
My ambition when photographing animals and birds is to represent them in the best possible way I can.
I believe I should be chosen because I have a thirst for knowledge, and a willingness to learn new skills and techniques. Additionally, I am very patient!
I would like to become a world recognised and respected animal photographer.
One of the places I visited during my African safari was Zanzibar.
Red Colobus Monkey
Definitely one of the biggest highlights (and there were many) was seeing the now rare Red Colobus monkey. We were taken to The Jozani-Chwaka Bay National Park and just off the road, in the forest, were these most delightful and engaging monkeys.
Fishmonger, Stone Town, Zanzibar
I watched this man for quite some time; he was oblivious to me doing so, as he was concentrating so hard on displaying his fish. Occasionally he would throw the eagerly awaiting cats at tid bit.
Fruit and chicken seller, Stone Town, Zanzibar
I came across this old man selling fruit and the chicken! He insisted on being paid before I took the photo.
Zanzibar sunset, Africa house hotel, Stone Town, Zanzibar
The Africa House Hotel is the perfect place to wind down after a glorious day in Zanzibar.
Zanzibar Coffee House, Stone Town, Zanzibar
I was particularly pleased with the composition of this photo and it also shows one of the many stunning doors for which Zanzibar is known for.
