The great adventures of South Islands, New Zealand!

More than sheep! It's an adventure!

The Land of the Long White Cloud, or better known as New Zealand, floats quietly approximately 1,500 kilometers east of Australia. Situated so remotely from all other lands, this beautiful island is said to be home to more sheep than humans.

I will never forget the day I took an 11 hours flight from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to Christchurch, New Zealand. It was the flight that transported me to a whole new world of experiences and adventures. My first sight of New Zealand woke every sleepy cell in my body. Peaking through the airplane’s window, the view that greeted me was the untainted beauty and well-defined rugged top of Mount Cook. Such a majestic scene it was!

It was soon time to take on the south islands. Road tripping with a campervan is a must in every travel junkie bucket list! Maneuvering this delightful monster on the single lanes of New Zealand towns is a challenge that adds to the thrill of the trip.

New Zealand really does have a lot to offer. The nation is blessed with picturesque sceneries at every turn. Imagine yourself falling in love with the pale turquoise colored lake in front of you when your friend who was walking back to the campervan behind, gasped. You turn and you catch yourself saying ‘Wow!’. Suddenly you feel tiny as you stood in awe of the immense mountains that stood before you, covered with a rug of trees with yellow shaded leaves.

Being an avid adrenaline junkie, I was amazed that the natural beauty of this kiwi island captivated me. However, I was eager to see what adrenaline-pumping activities this island had to offer. The kiwis after all were also infamous for inventing insane rides like zorbing where you are strapped inside a giant rubber ball and are rolled down a hill at 50kph. Having so many options, I decided I would bungee jump from 143 meters above from a highwire cable car! Taking that leap off the cable car was exhilarating. I could literally feel my heart dying to burst out of my chest! But once I was out in the open, free-falling down, I ensured I kept my eyes opened to savor the beauty of the surrounding barren mountains and the narrow blue stream that flows below.

The 11 days on this island flew by in a blink of an eye. If anyone asked, I would say that New Zealand is more than just sheep. From its unblemished natural beauty, to the intoxicating extreme sports and to its rich tribal culture and dainty towns, this country is one splendid vacation destination.
