Metamorphosis towards the Sahara

My Photo scholarship 2010 entry

Morocco | Tuesday, September 14, 2010 | 5 photos

During a journey to the Sahara in Morocco I was shown the metamorphosis of buildings as achievements of human beings in making use of the resources available to survive in those part of the earth. The series of pictures show the transitions in shape and material used to build those human shelters. The buildings in the first picture are obviously build with the most modern technique of mixing brick stones, sand, cement and paint. The landmark of Ouarzazate in the second picture shows how a less complex composition of material can result in a great state of the art. The huts in the slope of rocky hills are constructed with flat stones tightly stacked to make sure the walls are protective from the windy environment outside.
When the vegetation becomes more and more limited and sands are the only things available, human beings are forced to find an alternative because building permanent shelters is hardly possible. Tents are used to accommodate the need of shelters in the middle of the Sahara either for an emergency need during an un-replaceable journey crossing the largest desert on earth or simply to satisfy curiosity about living in the middle of nowhere.
I have always been challenged to step my feet on different parts of the world. My ability to live the lives in different conditions are very well adjusted which has enabled me to carry out activities using my basic camera. It is a great proud to show pictures I capture during every journey and let them tell a story while I tell the story behind them.
