It looks like it rained a lot again. There's lots of water under the trapeze this morning. Only a couple people on the beach.
Went to Claro for breakfast with Maya & G, but G had to leave early to help out some guests at the hotel. On the way there, I had to jump on a moto on my own (as Maya & G were taking the hotel bike) and it started to just pour rain as I left the hotel. It was raining so hard at one point, the moto driver couldn't see where he was going, so he pulled under an overhang to wait it out a bit. About 5 or so minutes later, it let up enough to get going again and he dropped me off right by where I needed to be, just a little wet. During breakfast, we took a moment of silence to honour rememberance day that was happening back home in Canada.
On the way back, took a guagua (public van) with Maya and Candace since it was still raining a bit and we wanted to stay a bit drier. It's also cheaper than a moto. There was a huge traffic jam downtown Cabarete, which I found funny, because it's not a place you'd expect a traffic jam. It was caused by emergency services dealing with a (now extinguished) burning car. Ambulances and fire trucks (with Ontario license plates... made me laugh) taking up one lane of the road and everyone trying to get around them. It was a crazy, chaotic traffic jam.
Then we passed the once-again flooded gas station and (4 star) hotel across the street, both pumping water back into the street rather than diverting it. The guy sitting next to me commented that it was such a shame, because that water will end up running into people's homes or somewhere else where they are not able to deal with it. He said they have money, they should be dealing with it. It would be as easy as creating a little diversion ditch but instead they just pump it out and pretend it's not their problem. I thought I heard him say there was a news crew documenting it, so they would hopefully bring attention to it and be shamed into better dealing with it. But I wouldn't hold my breath on that one.
Finally we made our way back to the hotel. :)
The rain stopped for a bit but started again in the evening. The lightning goes off randomly but I don't hear the thunder.
Went for dinner with the Swiss couple just next door at Kite Club.
One week down, three to go. It's been going okay but I still feel like there's moments when I feel out of place.
Saw a quote today that seemed to fit. "Feelings are much like waves. We can't stop them from coming but we can choose which ones to surf."
