My Photo scholarship 2010 entry
Worldwide | Tuesday, August 17, 2010 | 5 photos
Exploring Rapa Nui this year was a lifetime dream accomplished. This series of five photos depicts the cultural changes of the island.
I am a keen amateur photographer who graduated from the "point and shoot" school in 2000. I was just getting the hang of my Canon EOS when I finally forced myself to embrace the digital world in 2008. This year I joined a local camera club for the first time. I am in desperate need of tutoring in the science of manual digital photography!
My strong points as a photographer are composition and eye for detail. I am a purist who wants photos to accurately depict the world through my lens. I can appreciate others' photoshopped images as art, but the world I see doesn't need photoshopping. OK I lied just a little... I am prepared to straighten the odd horizon (two of my presented images have been straightened by a miniscule part of a degree), and I will crop occasionally.... but I try to get it right in the camera.
Now that I have more time for me I have become an avid traveller. Each trip is documented in a daily journal and numerous photo albums so that I can re-live my adventures in the nursing home in the distant future. While I am fit and healthy I plan to explore the more difficult destinations on my list. I am an easy-going travel companion who accepts glitches with equanimity. I have discovered that the most memorable moments in life are those which are unplanned.
