Madeira is home for one of the poorest regions in all Europe. In this paradise tMadeira is home for one of the poorest regions in all Europe. In this paradise there are neighbourhoods where police forces don't dare to go in.
An ironic situation. Madeira as a Gross domestic product per capita of 103% of the European average. It is s reported to be the second richest region of Portugal, right after the Portugese capital, and yet manages to have such poverty.

This is such a lie. I'm not saying that there is not poverty in Madeira but poverty in Madeira is mainly due to parents with drug or alcohol abuse, not much different than any other western european country. Madeira has a very good social services system to help people with drug abuse, also we have a universal free health care system and a free education system. If you want to know what real poverty is, try vsiting 95% of countries on planet earth like in Africa, most of the Americas including the US, excluding Canada, Asia and Eastern Europe.

Why have you shown the picture above of a derelict house. Most of these properties are for renovations Poor people are in every country! We have many, many beautiful houses in Madeira and wealthy people living here
I am English…. look at the UK. With apartments that are collapsing also the poverty is out of hand, in the 21st century people are starving!
Madeira is known as the “Pearl of the Atlantic” and “The Floating Garden in the Atlantic”
We have lived here for eight years the weather, food, people and the beauty of the Island is second to none!

This post is accurate… this last two weeks violence spreads in Funchal at night with youngsters fighting on the streets, robberies and assaults, alcohol and plenty of hard and synthetic drugs.
Also majority of the locals are poor and employed in the tourism industry with low wages. Education and Medicine also mediocre. The vast majority of local are poor and a very small portion of politicians and its friends are rich actually some of them are extremely rich. Highly recommended European Union intervention as EU tax payer’s are paying for all of it.
