My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

Visual images captivate masses and can capture the harsh realities or beautiful landscapes that surrounds us. Photography record and in the end bring out emotions nothing else can. I want to convey the hope for something better. I have found that images of people can move others and bring a sense of empathy. Hope and people get me to de a better photograph. As I am passionate about creating change and moving the world to more just communities, images of people can help us realize that from South Africa to a small island in the Caribbean we all laugh, dance, cry and eat. I am a passionate person and my love for photography came from my realization that we need to inspire, create emotions and ultimately better our communities. l want to take picture not for my personal benefit but to convey stories and bring about change. We need to remind other that there is beauty out there and there is suffering. With the images we can then ask ourselves; what is right? What is wrong? In the end is like Eve Arnold said, “If a photographer cares about the people before the lens and is compassionate, much is given. It is the photographer, not the camera, that is the instrument.”
