One Way Ticket To Paradise

Living on Gili Air

INDONESIA | Wednesday, 30 April 2014 | Views [346] | Scholarship Entry

A year ago i bought a one way ticket to an island called Gili Air. And trust me it was my best decision ever, i heard tons of great story about that island. So without any hesitation the next day, i arrived in Gili Air, right at the lunch time, so i walked around try to find something to eat. And i found this place just right at the beach, i ordered a tuna sandwich, and enjoying every bite of it while i hear the sound of the waves, lovely. Then i'm trying to walk around the island, and if you're taking a lap, it's only about 5.2kilometers. Quite small. And then i found this dive shop, and i looked at those people and they seems enjoying diving very much, and i'm buying it. So i make a stop, and i had the warmest welcome from this guy from south africa, Nick, and now he's actually my good friend. And yes, i decided to taking the Open Water diving license. And i straightly falling in love with diving. I love the atmosphere of the island, no pollution, really relaxing, really quite. And i found out, this is exactly what i've been looking for. Clear warm sky, white sand and crystal clear water. What else do i need. But sadly, the diving has to come to an end, and then i got my certificate as an Open Water diver. Yay!! But this is just wrong, i love this island, i love the people, most of the people on the island knows me after i spend a week there. I feel welcomed and i feel like, home. And i thought it's gonna be my last night on that island, therefore i asked all of my new friends if they want to joining to go to a bar and have a great night before i left. It was a beachfront bar, they will let you play guitar and sing a long. Just perfect, everybody is welcomed to join and have a good time, then another random decision was made that night, when Nick asked "Why don't take the next level, so you can stay longer?" And yes, you know the answer, i just couldn't leave this island at that moment. And at the end, i'm taking the Dive Control Specialist program, the underwater world around that island is just too amazing, the corals, those fishes. Amazing! living in such a paradise, for a great 3 months, renting my own house, blended in with the greatest community. Making friends, drawing such a great memories of my life, and always love to come back knowing, that you've been missed by that island. The food, the people, the life, and always know that they always welcoming you. And it makes me asked myself. "How did i end up here?" And answer it with a huge smile.
