My Scholarship entry - Capital City Paralyzed by Flood
Indonesia | Monday, November 24, 2014 | 4 photos
Jakarta, a big city consist of 10 millions people that has a high social gap between the lower income people and the higher income people. Many social issues occur in this city. Not just poverty in the middle of the skyscraper, but also corruption that causes the slow infrastructure development, traffic jam that could hold you for hours on the road, flood that occurs annually, etc. These problems become something that people consider as the common in Jakarta. Especially for the rich citizens, they can avoid these problems because most of the time they spent their time indoor and inside their luxury cars. But not the poor.
Photography for me is about sharing my point of view and my feelings. I want my audience to feel what I felt in the field. I want my photograph can increase my audience’s awareness and trigger a change for the problems that I cover. This is why I don’t do editing on computer, because I want to show the reality. This is why I travel to areas that rich people does not.
By submitting my photograph to this competition, I hope that I can learn more from Jason Edward. So my photograph can be useful for other people, well at least for my community back in Jakarta, Indonesia.
