My Photo scholarship 2010 entry

ABOUT ME

I am a self-taught amateur photographer. My camera is a constant companion. Photography is my passion; unequivocally and hands-down. I am Australian but have been working in Africa for almost three years including Angola, Gabon and Liberia. I am currently based in Lusaka, Zambia. My medium term goal is to travel to every country in Africa and document my adventures through photography. My long term goal is to be a professional photographer but am not quite sure if I have what it takes to make the grade. I also have a heck of a lot more to learn about the technical side. I would greatly welcome the chance to spend time with Jason, be mentored and inspired but also gain some insight to the photography business from an accomplished professional.

MY PHOTO ENTRY

Ethiopia is my favourite destination in Africa. It offers an unparalleled source of inspiration for any photographer from the tribes of the Lower Omo Valley, the historic towns of Gondar and Axum through to Bahar Dar – the source of the Blue Nile River. I have chosen to highlight the rock-hewn Churches and dominant Orthodox Christian religion in my photo entry. The Lonely Planet Guide to Ethiopia sums this up perfectly. “Wade through incense into a medieval world hewn from stone in Lalibela, and watch the line between past and present blur while taking part in striking Christian ceremonies that haven’t changed in 1000 years”.
