My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

I am a 27-year-old teacher in London. I enjoy my job, but I live for the holidays when I can pack my camera, dozens of rolls of film and a change of clothes or two and set off to explore and document the world. Ever since I went to India alone aged 18 I have felt a burning need to see and explore the world.
Last summer took me to South East Asia, where I spent a month travelling and photographing in Burma, followed by a few weeks in Thailand. This summer I am planning to document my journey along the Silk Route, through Central Asia. There is nothing I love more than walking into a new city, town or village with my camera in hand, looking for a story or just a single beautiful photo that captures something of the essence of the place I am in. The further off the beaten track the better.
I have been passionate about photography for around five years now. I started off making 'street photography' in central London, capturing fleeting moments in the day to day lives of passers-by. I would use this opportunity to learn from a talented photographer and hone the skills I already have. I am passionate about making images and this would show in my complete dedication to this project.
